Local SEO

The map pack is a different game from the blue links.

Proximity, the listing, the reviews, and whether the site agrees with itself. You cannot buy your way past a profile you do not own.

What the map pack actually uses

Google’s local results weigh the profile (categories, hours, service areas, photos), the reviews, distance from the searcher, and whether the rest of the web agrees on the name, address, and phone. The website still matters — especially the city pages and the schema — but a perfect site with a neglected listing loses to a mediocre site with a living profile.

I do not have a storefront you can walk into, and a lot of the shops I work with are the same. Service-area businesses can still rank locally. The listing has to be set up as one, the towns have to be true, and the site has to back that up with real pages — not a plugin that stamps fifty city names onto one template.

Don’t paint the map

If you do not staff Loudoun, do not list Loudoun. If you will take the job but it is a two-hour drive, say so on the page or leave it off. Fake service areas get you the wrong calls and teach the profile the wrong geography. I would rather rank in the counties you already live in.

Reviews are local SEO

Five reviews over thirty years does not mean the work was average. It means nobody asked. Asking after the job, in batches that look like a real week, is local ranking work as much as it is reputation. Dumping a backlog in an afternoon is the thing that looks like a campaign. We do not do that.
